THE ENGINES INSIDE

Eight proprietary engines, one cinematic software suite.

The style-locked image engine, DollyAI™, the GPU brush engine, the animatic engine, the screenplay engine, the breakdown engine, the sync engine, and the continuity engine. All in-house. All custom-built for filmmaking. All powering a single synchronised project file.

Style-locked frames

Storyboard images that hold one look — frame after frame.

Lock a style bible once and every generated frame obeys it: consistent line, tone, colour and characters across the whole sequence. No drift, no re-rolling for hours.

ENGINE 01

The Style-Locked Image Engine — Powered by DollyAI™

DollyAI™ generates production-quality storyboard frames from your script — on-brand, on-model, for pennies. And every generation is live-synced to the backing project file so the frame you render is the frame every other app sees.

The heart of StoryboardCanvas. DollyAI™ — our in-house AI director — reads your entire project (script, scene beats, characters, locations, props, costumes) before every frame generation, so the output is context-aware by default. Pick our Mitchell signature artist style — our in-house style profile — or fill any of 4 custom artist slots with your own reference bible (up to 30 images each across 3 named styles) and DollyAI™ calibrates a locked style bible for the whole project. Every frame DollyAI™ renders is on-model: characters don't drift between panels, wardrobe stays consistent, scene mood holds across hundreds of frames. The bible is a first-class object in your project, not a prompt you have to re-type.

Frame-accurate live backend sync

Every DollyAI™ image generation is committed to the project file in real time — the moment a frame renders it is already visible to the Storyboard Editor, the Shotlist, the Animate timeline, and the Files / Cloud system. No export step. No re-import. If the DP opens the shot list on set, the frames they see are the exact frames DollyAI™ just generated. If the director edits a scene heading, the next generation pass reads the updated script and re-renders only the affected frames — scene linkage preserved, character continuity graph re-joined, style bible re-applied. This is what makes the image engine frame-accurate across the whole pipeline, not just inside a single app.

  • DollyAI™ image generation - typically 30-60 seconds per frame depending on complexity
  • Frame-accurate live sync - every render is instantly visible to every other app
  • Style bible locked per project - zero drift across the whole deck, per-project lookup at read time
  • Mitchell signature house style built in - or 4 custom artist slots, 3 styles x 10 images = 30 references per artist
  • Bible-hash cache - re-syncs on unchanged references are free, no wasted credits
  • Character continuity engine - identity embeddings keep every cast member on-model across every frame
  • Scene-aware prompting - DollyAI™ reads surrounding scenes automatically
  • Storyboard mode in production today - 16:9 frames with full project context
  • Specialist modes shipping next - theatrical poster, streaming key art, concept art, mood board, EPK still, lower-third graphic, title card
  • Surgical inpainting live now from the Draw suite - text-prompt or freeform mask edits
  • Attach-to-scene chip - one click drops any generation onto its scene frame in the Storyboard Editor
  • Stale-frame detection - rename or delete a scene heading and affected frames surface for review
  • Per-style negative prompt library - pencil refuses colour, colour refuses monochrome, no smudge between modes
  • Mood-aware prompts - gritty, dreamy, comedic, the AI adapts within the locked style
  • Batch regeneration across the AI Artist surface - collections, A/B compare, sync badges, drift indicators
  • Per-frame credit metering with upfront cost preview chip - you always know what a generation will cost

ENGINE 02

DollyAI™ — The AI Director

Not a chatbot. An AI director layered across every app in the suite.

DollyAI™ is the intelligence that makes the whole suite feel like one product. Every action she takes starts with a parallel 16-table project-context fetch so she answers with full awareness of your script, breakdown, cast, schedule, locations, props, vehicles, and style bible. She sees every storyboard frame, character photo, location scout, and recent generation. 100+ typed, prompt-engineered actions across Script, Shotlist, AI Artist, Cast, Locations, Props, Vehicles, Shoot, Diary, Calendar, Call Sheet, Breakdown, Budget, Draw, and Animate.

  • 100+ structured AI actions — not free-form chat
  • 16-table parallel project-context fetch before every call
  • Streaming SSE responses — watch Dolly think in real time
  • NDJSON per-scene streaming for bulk shotlist parses
  • Unified character continuity graph — 4-way merge
  • Per-action credit gating with transparent billing
  • Dedicated action catalogue in ai-service.ts (951 lines)

ENGINE 03

The GPU-Accelerated Brush Engine

A world-beating web-based drawing engine — at 60fps in your browser.

Our custom, proprietary GPU-accelerated drawing engine renders at 60fps in the browser with zero plugins, zero install, zero download. Four-phase performance pipeline — GPU compositor, Web Worker brush computation, dirty-region re-composite, OffscreenCanvas worker — means the UI stays buttery smooth on the longest storyboard sessions.

  • 450+ stock brushes across ink, pencil, oils, watercolour, charcoal, airbrush, gouache, chalk, markers, bristle
  • 120+ paper and canvas textures — cold-press, hot-press, rough, smooth, vellum, bristol, linen
  • Custom brush builder — pressure, flow, scattering, jitter, tilt, texture, dual-brush blending
  • 15+ blend modes · non-destructive layers with groups and masks
  • Full stylus pressure + X/Y tilt + barrel rotation
  • 5 smoothing modes — stabilizer, pixel-perfect, weighted, EMA, none
  • Adobe .abr brush-file import — your favourite packs come with you

ENGINE 04

The Animatic Timing Engine

Storyboards become timed animatics in a click — camera, transitions, audio, all native.

Approved frames plus camera-arrow metadata become a motion-timed animatic with easing curves, transitions, hold frames, and a proper timeline you can edit like a rough cut. 27 camera-move presets, 9 transition types, scratch audio and temp music support, and MP4/MOV export with timecode burn-in.

  • 27 camera-move presets baked into the timeline
  • 9 cinematic transition types with easing curves
  • Scratch audio, temp music, and sound-effect slots
  • Timeline editor — trim, ripple, snap, hold frames
  • MP4 / MOV export with timecode burn-in
  • Direct hand-off from the Storyboard Editor — no re-import
  • Hybrid pipeline — mix AI frames with hand-drawn frames

ENGINE 05

The Screenplay Word-Processing Engine

A full screenplay word-processing suite — typed blocks, revision mode, collaboration.

Not a rich-text editor with screenplay templates — a semantic word processor with typed screenplay blocks, scene navigator, intelligent element assist, dual dialogue, revision mode with industry-coloured pages and locked scene numbers, autosave history, named versions, editable drafts, readthrough TTS, and @-mention comments. File / Edit / View / Help menus. Import and export for FDX, Fountain, Celtx, HTML, RTF, and PDF.

  • Typed screenplay blocks with Tab cycling
  • Intelligent element assist + scene heading autocomplete
  • Revision mode with locked scene numbers (1A, 1B…) and coloured pages
  • Autosave history with named versions and editable drafts
  • Live multi-user collaboration + live cursors + presence
  • Approval workflows — reviewers sign off without an account
  • Full import/export: FDX · Fountain · Celtx · HTML · RTF · PDF

ENGINE 06

The Production-Breakdown Engine

Batched AI breakdown across the full screenplay — 12 categories, parallel scenes.

Our full-script breakdown engine splits scenes via INT./EXT. regex, processes parallel batches of 4, and returns industry-coloured tags across 12 categories — cast, stunts, extras, props, wardrobe, makeup, set dressing, VFX, SFX, animals, vehicles, sound, and more. Results flow downstream: cast roster auto-seeds, props list populates, DOOD report updates, schedule re-balances.

  • 12 industry-standard colour categories
  • Full-script batched parallel processing
  • INT./EXT. regex scene split + time-of-day awareness
  • Auto-seed downstream — Cast roster, Props list, Vehicle manifest
  • Manual overrides preserved across re-runs
  • StudioBinder-compatible colour legend + CSV export

ENGINE 07

The Synchronisation Engine

One synchronised project file across the whole suite - change scene 1, every doc updates.

The real magic. Change a scene heading in the Script app and the breakdown re-tags, the schedule rebalances, the call sheet re-renders, the shot list reorders, the storyboard sequence updates, the cast continuity graph adjusts, and the DOOD recomputes — all in real time, all in one project file. Cloud-synced across every device on your team.

  • One project file across Script, Shotlist, Breakdown, Storyboard, Schedule, Budget, Cast, Locations, Props, Vehicles, Shoot, Diary, and more
  • Real-time presence with live cursors across every app
  • Cloud-synced across every device on your team
  • Version history with named restore points
  • Role-based permissions (Owner, Editor, Commenter, Viewer)
  • Review-session share tokens for external approvers

ENGINE 08

The Character Continuity Engine

Every character, every scene, every costume — one unified graph.

A 4-way merge of characters, cast members, breakdown cast tags, and character costumes into one continuity graph — exposed at runtime so every prompt Dolly writes reads from the same source of truth. Generated frames stay on-character, script rewrites stay in-voice, casting coverage stays accurate across every scene.

  • Character profiles + cast + breakdown tags + costumes unified
  • Live graph — no snapshotting, no duplication, no drift
  • Every AI prompt reads from the graph automatically
  • Costume continuity tracked per scene
  • Casting coverage computed from scene linkage
  • Auto-seeded from script breakdown on first run

How they connect

Eight engines. One project file.

Every engine reads from and writes to the same synchronised project — so a scene-heading edit in Script propagates to Breakdown, Schedule, Shotlist, Storyboard, and Animate before you've even released the key.

You write a scene Screenplay Engine
Breakdown Engine (12-category batched tag)
Continuity Engine (character + costume graph update)
DollyAI™ (context-aware shotlist suggestion)
Image Engine (style-locked frames)
Brush Engine (paint over the frame if you want)
Animatic Engine (time the deck, add camera moves)
Sync Engine (every app on every seat, live)

Eight engines. One subscription.

Every engine ships on every tier — no "Pro AI" paywall, no feature gating. Solo gets the same style-locked image engine as Broadcaster.
