The pipeline

Where Cast sits in the production flow.

The casting room as a synchronised production app. Cast sits between the breakdown's character extraction and the call sheet's daily roster - every confirmed actor flows automatically to the daily call sheet with names, roles, and call times pre-filled. Deal-memo status flips cast availability. Costume defaults scaffold themselves in the wardrobe surface the moment a row is created.

Inside the app

Every shipped feature, fully wired.

Each block below maps a real shipped capability to the workflow it powers. No vapourware, no coming-soon.

Characters presented like a portfolio

Every speaking role from your breakdown lands in a clean grid of cards - character name in elegant serif, attached actor (or 'Awaiting cast' in muted italic), and a coral fill bar that telegraphs casting progress at a glance.

  • Auto-extracted character list from the screenplay breakdown
  • Actor profiles with headshots, reels, conflicts, rate cards
  • Awaiting-cast italic + casting-progress fill bar per role
  • Background, stunt, stunt-double, voice-only - all distinct role tiers
  • Stunt doubles link directly to the principal they're doubling for

A monthly calendar that earns its place on screen

The Cast Availability tab renders a proper canon calendar in the main work area - a five-state colour legend (Available, Hold, Unavailable, Shoot Day, Not Set), a sticky cast member column, today and weekend columns highlighted, prev / today / next pills above the grid.

  • Click any cell to cycle status
  • Heatmap sub-tab for the bird's-eye view across cast
  • ICS calendar import - green / red cells populate themselves
  • Persisted schedule conflicts surface on the producer dashboard

Self-tape review with AI Vision feedback

Drop a tape into the actor's row and the engine returns structured notes on framing, lighting, delivery, character truth, and what to avoid - written for the actor to read solo, not for a casting session attendee.

  • Cached for 24 hours - re-listening is free
  • Child-actor uploads automatically skip the AI pass
  • Reader cues + mood beats + framing notes per scene
  • Audience-length-aware (30s / 60s / 120s) directing

Voice memos that sound like the actor

From any cast member's detail, generate a TTS sample of them reading their character's lines in any of 9 professional voices, with optional natural-language direction. Preview a voice match before booking, send the audio to the agent, store the result against the cast row.

  • 9 professional voices (production-grade TTS)
  • Natural-language direction supported per sample
  • Per-row archive - every memo stored against the cast member
  • Sounds like a casting tape, not a synthesised dictation

Talent paperwork, generated the right way

Tap once and a PDF lands in your downloads with the production name, talent name, role, date and clauses pre-filled. Industry-standard, defensible language by default; bring the form to a lawyer for jurisdiction-specific review.

  • Talent release forms, deal memos, paperwork pack - all auto-filled
  • NotLegalAdvice banner on every form surface - explicit scope
  • Child actor protocol - guardian fields + AI processing gates + restricted export
  • SAG-compatible paperwork field shape

Cross-app threads that just connect

Cast roles from the breakdown autoseed into the Cast app the moment a script gets broken down. Confirmed cast flows straight into call sheets with names, roles, and call times pre-filled. Costume defaults scaffold themselves in the wardrobe surface as soon as a cast row is created.

  • Breakdown → Cast autoseed
  • Cast → Call sheet daily roster pre-fill
  • Deal-memo status flips cast availability
  • Cast attendance pre-populates the Diary's daily entry
Cast the picture

Self-tapes that land next to the sides.

An actor films a self-tape on the bus home and it is waiting for you beside their sides, ready to review. Casting stops living in a clogged inbox and starts living next to the role it is for.

Frequently asked

Common questions about Cast.

Can talent record self-tapes without an account?

Yes. Every cast member gets a one-link Casting Portal page on their phone - they record the self-tape inline (front camera, with the side displayed alongside), and the video lands in your casting director's review queue with the side attached. No signup required.

Does the AI self-tape review work for child actors?

No - by design. Child-actor uploads automatically skip the AI Vision pass. The system enforces the child-actor protocol - guardian fields, mandatory protocol acknowledgement, AI processing gates, restricted export - at the database layer before any AI feature touches the record.

Can I export deal memos to my legal team?

Yes. Talent release forms, deal memos, and the full paperwork pack export as PDFs with production name + talent name + role + clauses pre-filled. Every form carries a clear NotLegalAdvice banner - bring the form to a lawyer for your specific jurisdiction.

Does Cast track stunt doubles?

Yes. Cast members carry a role tier (principal, supporting, featured, background, stunt, stunt-double, voice-only). Stunt doubles can link directly to the principal they're doubling for. The Day-Out-Of-Days, scheduling, and budget surfaces all read the role tier so a background actor never gets accidentally treated like a series regular.

How does cast availability sync to the schedule?

The Availability tab renders a per-cast-member calendar with five states (Available / Hold / Unavailable / Shoot Day / Not Set). Click any cell to cycle status. Conflicts surface on the producer dashboard. Import an actor's ICS calendar at the top of the Heatmap and the green / red cells populate themselves.

Is the AI self-tape feedback for the actor or the casting director?

Written for the actor to read solo. The notes cover framing, lighting, delivery, character truth, and what to avoid - phrased as direction, not assessment. Cached for 24 hours so re-listens are free.
